Troubleshooting a Chromecast-enabled app

Before you cast to your TV, please note:

  • Your phone or tablet cannot cast to your device with Chromecast built-in if it is connected to your mobile network. Your phone or tablet must be connected to a WiFi network.
  • The smartphone, tablet or computer you are using to cast must be on the same home Wi-Fi network as your device with Chromecast built-in.
  • You must be running the latest version of the supported app. You can always double check that you are on the latest version by visiting Google Play or Apple App Store and checking for any app updates, and update your app accordingly.

For more app specific information, please select the app from the list below:

Casting from the YouTube app & YouTube.com

  • Some videos may not play using TV with Chromecast built-in. Private videos, live content, and videos not approved for mobile playback will not work with your TV with Chromecast built-in.
  • Because YouTube uses adaptive bitrate streaming, videos may appear lower quality at first, then will switch to the highest possible quality after a few seconds. If the video does not buffer at playback speed, the video will be downgraded to a lower quality setting, allowing for smoother playback.
  • Casting from YouTube is supported from the YouTube app, from YouTube.com and most embedded YouTube videos.
  • If you do not see the Cast button on YouTube.com, please double check that you have the Google Cast extension installed on your Chrome browser and ensure that your computer is on the same network as your TV with Chromecast built-in.

Casting from the Netflix app & Netflix.com

  • If you do not see the Cast button on Netflix.com, please double check that you have the Google Cast extension installed on your Chrome browser and ensure that your computer is on the same network as your Chromecast.
  • If you are seeing an error such as Error 16003, 16001, session_timeout or pairing_timeout, perform a factory data reset on your device and restart your Netflix app. See our Frequently Asked Questions for information on how to perform a factory data reset.

Casting from the HBOGo app and HBOGo.com

  • If you do not see the Cast button on HBOGo.com, please double check that you have the Google Cast extension installed on your Chrome browser and ensure that your computer is on the same network as your Chromecast.
  • Please note: The Cast button for HBOGo will only appear once you begin playing a video or TV show. The Cast button will be located next to the volume bar on the app.

Casting from the Pandora app

  • Please note that the Cast button for Pandora will only appear once you begin playing a playlist. The Cast button will be located next to the volume bar on the app.
  • Casting from Pandora.com is not supported at this time

Casting from the Google Play Music app

  • Casting a song with Google Play Music is supported on your Android and iOS phone or tablet. Casting from music.google.com on your laptop or desktop computer is not yet supported.
  • Please note: Google Music does NOT play local content from your Android device to your TV with Chromecast built-in. All playlists, radio stations, and individual songs must be hosted in the cloud or uploaded through the Music Manager before they can be cast.
  • If your device disconnects from the network, the playlist will stop after the current song ends, so please double check your network if the playlist ends without any action on your part.
