How to cast video to projector but get sound to soundbar? 0 Recommended Answers 8 Replies 75 Upvotes

Hi there,
We have our chromecast connected to a projector (epson eb-s 400) without and audio exit - hence all the sound coming through the (not too exciting) projector speakers.
Can you think of any ways to get the sound to the sound bar while still casting to the projector?
Thanks a lot

Hello there!

At this time this isn't supported. You may need to get one of HDMI splitter and to connect soundbar and projector to it.

Peter

Not supported.

Unfortunately, any dongles, adapters and devices between Chromecast and the TV are unsupported so your use may vary.

I don't understand why this is not supported. I expected it will be easy with Google Chromecast to use multiple devices (like projector for video and soundbar for sound). What is the "group" option for then if it's not working?

Same here. Can you add this functionality please Google? It's possible to do this with Chromecast Audio, why not with Chromecast? I would like to avoid running an HDMI cable from my Home Theater receiver to my projector, using two Chromecasts (one for the picture, the other for the sound) would be a neat solution.

I have been able to get sound if you use a computer and cast the desktop. You have to unclick the share audio button. However, in Chrome 78 that option disappears. Help!

Sounds like you need a hdmi audio extractor like this one. AmazonBasics 4K HDMI to HDMI and Audio (RCA Stereo or Spdif) Extractor Converter (Supports Apple TV, Fire TV and Blue-Ray Players). What you do is you plug in your chromecast to the hdmi input and then an hdmi cable to your projector. Then plug in what ever connection you have on your sound bar to the extractor. This will allow you to still watch your content (at 4k) and then connect your audio to ur sound bar so you get both at the same time. Hope this helps.

I have exactly the same problem. It annoys me to the most extend. I bought a nest mini and Chromecast because I thought that was the only reason it actually exists. If it really can only play sound OR video that’s the reason why people actually buy Apple productS. Because they are thought through well enough. So annoying to be lured into a pro Plan though becaus it said one could also stream sound then. Giant ripoff. Super underwhelming.
