Chromecast w/ Google TV not connecting over 5ghz with Google Nest wifi mesh.
0
Anyone having issues trying to get Chromecast with Google TV to connect with Google nest wifi mesh over 5ghz wifi?

My Chromecast with Google TV device only connects to the wifi mesh at 2.4ghz and refused to jump ship.

Attempts on troubleshooting:
- Verified that majority of the devices on the network is connected on 5ghz. Only this Chromecast running over 2.4ghz.
- Restarted all nest wifi points and router. No luck 2.4ghz still.
- Power down all points and forced the Chromecast to connect straight to the google nest router. No luck and it was connecting on 2.4ghz.
- Moved the Chromecast closer to the nest router. The Chromecast device was connecting over 2.4ghz while sitting on top of the nest wifi.
- Factory reset the Chromecast and reconnected to the wifi at 2.4ghz...still....

Will like to see if anyone can shed some light on this issue.

Thank you

Hi Needmorecoffee, I'm using Google Nest Wifi, albeit the first generation and I didn't have any problems connecting. Have you changed settings or set priorities on the router? Are you using WPA3 on the Nest WiFi? No expert in router configuration but it works on mine so something may be different in your set up.

I was having the same issue - turns there is an issue with CCwGTV currently only seeing limited 5ghz wifi channels. For my unit/country it was only seeing networks in the 36-48 channel range, but this may differ depending on your region. I see Nikkorenz recommending channel 40 - that worked on my unit. I was advised Google was aware of the issue and was working on a resolution. In the mean time 2.4ghz seems to work fine if you don't want to mess with your routers settings.

thank you. changing to channel 40 worked. I hope they fix this bug as I don't want to be on a channel that is completely saturated by other clients and routers!

This is really annoying. I use the higher frequency 5GHz channels (149-165) as they give me better performance in my environment.
I can change to the lower channels (36-48) to connect the Chromecast with Google TV, but I am leaving it on the 2.4GHz network until Google fix this bug, so all other devices on my network don't suffer.
Not sure if the firmware assumes limited region settings for everyone and hides the higher channels?

Frustrating to say the least  . . . and if you have Google nest router you can’t change the channel either?!

That's right. Google nest won't let you change channel
