Hi everyone,  

Recently, we deployed a few updates to improve your overall Chromecast experience.  For more details, check out the notes below: 

Persistent Volume Changes
Previously, you may have noticed that your Chromecast would reset its volume to 100% after every reboot despite lowering the volume using your casting device. With this new update, the volume you set on your Chromecast will persist across reboots. In other words, the volume will remain the same after the Chromecast is rebooted. 

More reliable Cast control from the Google Home app
Now, it's even more reliable to control your Cast devices in the Google Home App on Android. We've improved how we connect to your Nest devices so that you now no longer need to always be on the same network as your Chromecasts, Google Nest Hub, Google Hub Max, or smart speakers. This means quicker access to the things you need to do on your device, like volume control, so you can get back to watching your favorite shows!

With the new "not on the same network" feature, does this mean all cast requests sent from Android bounce off a G cloud service as an intermediary instead of being locally fulfilled?

I'm hoping this fixes app disconnections from Chromecast. This is really the only issue I have encountered. Thanks for the update.

The volume setting is persistent, but not the volume itself, it is on max until you change the volume the first time, then it jumps to the previous setting.

I've recently lost my cast media controls. I've searched far and wide for a solution and I know this is a long shot but would this update correct my issue?

I'm having a similar issue as Richard. I used to be able to cast YouTube from my Pixel 2 to my LG TV, but now, the cast option doesn't list my TV and only the Nest Hub. In addition, it was possible to cast any YouTube audio-only from my phone to the Mini's but that option is all gone as well. This is frustrating, as YouTube music does not have the same contents as YouTube especially if the videos are not made by a big content creator.
The connection itself is there, as YouTube music lists ALL of my devices that are not available on the YouTube app.
