My Gen 1 Chromecast stutters on what seems to be videos uploaded at a higher frame rate. This seems to be a long running issue. My internet is more than fast enough and the 50hz fix does nothing. Is there a fix in the pipeline?

I've already tried the 50hz mode and it's had no effect. From research a lot of people seem to be experiencing this issue and there seems to be no solution as of yet.

Does your supported sending device (e.g phone), TV or router have a task killer app, standby, firewall, antivirus, sleep mode, power saver, a parental control, tv HDMI-CEC settings, wifi network extender, or electromagnetic devices (stereo receiver, DECT cordless phone, microwave, baby monitor, refrigerator, LCD monitor, etc) causing interference?
 
If you have DECT or baby monitor, or other bluetooth devices, make sure their batteries are fresh and check their user manuals about changing channels. Speaking of channels, if you have an Android device, install the Google Play app, Wifi Analyzer and run it. Your wifi router may be on a congested channel. Try channel 1, 6 or 11. Not Auto setting.

It's a fault in gen 1 firmware. Loads of people get stuttering YouTube video at 1024x720 @60hz. Was ok a few months ago. You can try all you want but Google broke it

It is a problem with YouTube or the YouTube app  built into chromecast. Google needs to fix the problem but they have thus far refused to acknowledge it exists or or too incompetent to remedy the situation.

Has been happening to me as well for probably close to a year.  Problem is intermittent. Typically happens when watching video game videos which are probably very high res. Netflix plays just fine.

I'm having the exact same problem as the comment above. It only happens on youtube. Never on twitch or netflix. And also while streaming videogame content, which are often 1080p 60fps. Really annoying.

Yep, same as everyone above. My gen1 stutters on Youtube only (not twitch or netflix or anything else) and my gen2 in the other room works fine. Have switched TVs, factory reset, etc and no solution.

I can confirm the same problem. Parents have a latest Gen Chromecast stick they have smooth video playback. 

I howeever have a Chromecast Gen 1 with 1.32.144770 Firmware.
Streaming Youtube via Screenshare from PC works, Netflix App works perfectly. Yet Youtube App streaming has stutters and framedrops after 15-20 sec, then works for a few seconds and then starts again. It is like so for months (and previously it worked flawlessly)

Please open up a bug ticket and tell the dev team to force videoplayback to 50fps at most. It can not be that hard, believe me.

Same issue here. Things used to work fine but now 60fps videos are constantly stuttering making them unwatchable.
