Google photos stopped showing on smart display, only shows stock photos 1 Recommended Answer 38 Replies 34 Upvotes

I successfully set up my Lenovo 10-in Smart display and it's been working great showing only the selected photos that I chose from my Google photos albums. Then, all of a sudden, it stopped showing any of my photos, and now only shows the Google stock pictures. I rebooted the smart display but no luck. I also tried to change some settings in the Google home app for the device, but the changes don't appear to work, and I can't turn off the Google stock photos.

I also noticed that in the Google home app, when I go to Account--Settings--Assistant, that now only my phone is shown as an Assistant device. It used to show all of my Assistant devices (phone, home speaker, mini speaker 1, mini speaker 2, mini speaker 3, smart display).  These devices are still appropriately shown in Account--Settings--(name of)Home, and I can link to the settings for all those devices from the (name of)Home tab. Is this correct, an intended change to no longer see the devices under Account--Settings--Assistant?

Any idea what caused this? Is it because of an update either in the Google home app or on the smart display? I did turn on the firmware preview program for the Smart display, if that makes a difference.

I guess I'll have to delete the smart display from the Google home app and then set it back up in the app. Should I also factory reset the smart display? And what order should I take to remove the smart display? Should I go into the device settings and unlink the voice? Or just delete the device? Or just do a factory reset without removing anything from the app? I just want to make sure I do it the right way. I would like to avoid this from happening again if possible.

Same thing happened to me on my 8" Smart Display and around the same time frame too. I tried the same things you did and so far no luck.

Important: To view Google Photos using Google Home, you must have a Google Home Hub with Photo frame enabled, Chromecast, or TV with Chromecast built-in linked to Google Home.

What's your point?  I do have photo frame enabled and I do have it linked to Google Home.  Everything was working fine, then it suddenly stopped showing my photos.  Maybe it was from an update?

And if you're wondering if the Lenovo Smart display can do the photo frame function, in most certainly can. The smart display is just like the home hub, but better, with Chromecast built-in and a camera for Google duo. Like I said, it was already working fine. I really don't think they would suddenly take away one of the main advertised functions of the smart display.

Agreed; this is a complete joke. I'd have to think tons of people are buying this to be a Photo display and it just simply does not work!!
