Prime says update required to cast on toshiba tv but all of my other apps cast just fine 0 Recommended Answers 15 Replies 26 Upvotes

I have a toshiba 4K tv with built in chromecast. I was excited to see that prime video is now supporting casting however when I try to cast from prime video, prime tells me that the hardware needs to be updated. There is no option to update the tv firmware anywhere in the menu. All of my other apps (Netflix, hbo,showtime, etc)cast just fine which leads me to believe that this is a prime issue but that’s fully updated too. Shame I’ve been waiting for prime support and now nothing

I'm also experiencing the exact same issue on my 4k Toshiba! I'm curious who else is experiencing this. I can't find a Chromecast or firmware update option anywhere in the TV menu. I swear back in July, streaming to Amazon prime worked just fine for me..

I'm experiencing the same issue. Bought from Best Buy with the extended warranty, thankfully. Toshiba says Best Buy is responsible for providing aftermarket support for this model. 
Geek Squad came out and changed the board but it didn't fix it. They're going to try again and if it still doesn't work, they will replace the entire TV.
Sounds like no updates from Toshiba or Best buy are available even though the problem is just a hardware issue. If you are out of warranty, you may have to start using an external chromecast.
Also, I don't believe Google controls when the firmware gets installed on these built-in chromecasts. I went down the Chromecast support route, and according to them, the updates are controlled by the manufacturer. Everyone except Best Buy is kind of blaming each other so hard to tell who is responsible for a software issue like this.

Ugh me too!! When I search the google home app there’s no place to select update that I can find and when I google it it says all updates happen automatically.

Likewise. Able to cast from all other apps, updated both Prime video & Chromecast, still saying update needed & unable to cast from my prime app to my Toshiba TV.

I've had this issue for about a month now, only with my Toshiba TV. Finally called Toshiba and to ask them to walk me through how to update firmware. Turns out my 2 year old TV has been discontinued and because of this, Toshiba has stopped making firmware updates. There is nothing you can do to fix this. The only suggestion they had was buy a Roku or Fire stick to be able to watch Prime Video.
