chromecast sends hidden SSID

Welcome to the Chromecast Help Forum—tell us about your issue:

  1. Are you seeing any particular error message?

  2. What’s your router’s make and model?

  3. What’s your TV’s make and model?

  4. What OS are you using to cast (Android 4.4, Windows 7, OSx 10.8, etc.)?

Kindly answer the questions above before posting.

1. yes.
2. Mikrotik Rb751u-2hnd
3. LG LW5700
4.  Everything Windows 8.1, Android 5.01, 4.4.2 etc.

Problem:
it has been stated before and it's a closed thread by now but i still have this problem, when chromecast starts its setup, it broadcasts a hidden SSID that's used for the setup, nevertheless, after it's all done and i get the "ready to cast" it keeps broadcasting in the same channel as my main router

Things i have checked, it IS my chromecast, i can assert it cos the intensity of the signal gets higher as i approach the device using a wifi scanner, the thing broadcast a hidden SSID even when the device Works as it should, i was able to broadcast netflix, YouTube and everything Works, but it keeps showing the Hidden SSID working as an Access Point with NO PROTECTION OR ENCRYPTION WHATSOEVER, i ALREADY tried the Factory reset twice, rebooting, disconnecting it from energy and leave it for a night unplugged from everything, but things behave the same afterwards, anything could be done? i dont wanna be rick rolled, and it has already been proved that it can be hijacked due to this behavior, there's any solution??

Hi arangaran,

When you are going through the setup, are you choosing to leave the guest mode enabled? That will cause the device to broadcast its own individual SSID I believe. If you reset the Chromecast device, go through the setup while making sure to UN-check the guest option, does the issue go away?
