Chromecast Problem: High Pitch Audio

Every post about this issue seems to date back to 2014 and no post has had a solid answer.

I received a Chromecast as a gift last week and I've been having some issues with it.

I'm running it on my brand new Sharp FHD LC-40N5000U 40" 1080p 60Hz LED Smart HDTV, so it is not old. I downloaded the app, set it up, and made sure it was plugged into an HDMI port in the back. I'm streaming from an iPhone 6 with the most current updates.

After loading a Netflix show the stream began. The picture is clear as day, but the audio sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks. I tried streaming HBO and it did the same thing. When I streamed Pandora or Spotify, the audio was fine.

I streamed from my friends iPhone 6 (current software) and had the exact same problem.

I rebooted the Chromecast multiple times.

My HD TV is up to date.

I turned my phone off and back on.

Turned the TV off and back on.

Switched HDMI ports in the back of the TV.

Turned my router off and back on.

Factory reset the Chromecast.

Nothing has solved the problem.

What am I doing wrong?

Is this problem fixable? Do I need to buy an HDMI extension? Do I need to return the Chromecast? Is it my TV?

Thanks for posting in the Chromecast Help Forum. In order for us to isolate and pinpoint the issue, is it possible for you to test your Chromecast on a different TV? This will help us determine where the issue is originating from.

  • Having your post rated as helpful.

Having a post marked and removed as abuse will slow a user's advance in levels.
