My Wi-Fi password is incorrect

During setup, if you select your Wi-Fi name and enter your Wi-Fi password, but connection fails and returns as an error, try the steps below:

Initial checklist 

1. Did you pick the correct Wi-Fi name from the drop-down list 'Network name'?
2. Did you select the option to view the password when you type in your password?

Common mistakes

• Capitalised incorrect letter
• Caps lock may be turned on
• Missed a letter or number 
• Selected incorrect Wi-Fi network name from drop-down
• Password entered must be a minimum of 8 characters long

General troubleshooting

If you've ticked off all of the steps above and the password is still incorrect, try one of the steps below and then try again. If it still doesn't work, move to the next step. 

Step 1. Reboot your Google Nest or Home device

1. Disconnect the power cable from the speaker or display.
2. Reconnect power cable back into the speaker or display.

Step 2. Reboot router

1. Power off the router and power it back on. Note: Most routers just require that you unplug the power source and then plug it back in to reboot.

Step 3. Force close the Google Home app

Step 4. Try to set up again

When you get to the password portion of the setup process, do the following:

1. Android: If the 'Get Wi-Fi password option' appears when you select the desired Wi-Fi network:
   1. Tap OK.
   2. If password fails, select No thanks and manually input Wi-Fi password.
      1. You can tap the eye icon on the password box to show the password that you've typed in. 
      2. Password must be a minimum of 8 characters long.
2. iOS: Tick the box for 'Show password' under the password box. This will show you exactly what you type to ensure that it's accurate, instead of the black dots that appear after you input a character.
