Cast media control notifications

Control media that plays on your Chromecast devices (Chromecast, Chromecast Ultra, Chromecast Audio, TVs and speakers that work with Google Cast, Chromecast with Google TV), Google TV Streamer, and Google Nest or Home speakers and displays, all directly from Cast media control notifications on Android devices.

To get Cast media control notifications, your mobile device is linked to the same account as your Chromecast, Google TV Streamer, speaker, or display. Also, you'll get a notification for all Google streaming devices and the speakers or displays that are on this same Wi-Fi network.

Note: You won’t get notifications when you cast YouTube or YouTube Music content from your phone.
 

Supported mobile devices

Cast media control notifications are available on Android devices that run Android 6.0 or later. They aren't available on iOS devices.

Supported Cast devices

You'll get Cast media control notifications when you play media using Chromecast, Chromecast Ultra, Chromecast Audio, Chromecast with Google TV, Google TV Streamer, Google Nest or Home devices, and TVs and speakers that work with Google Cast.

What is displayed on Cast media control notifications

  • Name of the device you or someone on the same Wi-Fi network is casting to.
  • Content provider.
  • Media controls (Pause Pause, Mute Mute, Stop Stop, and Settings Settings).

You can turn off Cast media control notifications within Settings Settings.

Temporarily dismiss Cast media control notifications

To temporarily dismiss a Cast media control notification from displaying during the current casting session, simply swipe it away on your phone.

Note: The notification will reappear if you start to cast content from a different Cast-enabled app.

Turn off Cast media control notifications for your device

To prevent others on your Wi-Fi network from controlling your media casting, you can turn off Cast media control notifications on your streaming device or your speaker or display.

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap Favorites or Devices
  3. Touch and hold your device's tile and then tap Settings Settings and then Recognition & sharing.
  4. Turn Let others control your cast media off.

Turn off Cast media control notifications on your phone

To permanently turn off Cast media control notifications from displaying on your phone, follow the steps below:

Option 1:

  1. On the notification, tap Settings Settings.
  2. Turn Show remote control notifications off Off.

Option 2:

  1. On your phone, tap Settings Settings.

  2. Tap Google and then Devices & sharing and then Cast options and then Turn off Media controls for Cast devices.

To turn notifications back on, turn on Media controls for Cast devices.
