Meanwhile, 4K HDR, also known as Ultra High Definition premium or 4K HDR, is an exciting television technology that promises even better picture quality when watching movies or TV shows. You can expect:
- Greater color depth
- Brighter highlights
- Deeper blacks and whiter whites
- Wide color range
What you need
- A 4K compatible HDTV with an HDMI port that supports HDCP 2.2 and 60 frames per second (fps). Ports with these labels support HDCP 2.2:
- Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL)
- HDCP 2.2
- UHD, Ultra HD, 4K Ultra HD
- 4K
- Note: If you're using an AVR or soundbar, it needs to support HDCP 2.2.
- A high-speed internet connection of at least 20 Mbps (recommended)
- 4K programming from content providers (may require a subscription)
- Tip: To search for 4K content, use search terms like "4K," "HDR," and "UHD."
- A high speed HDMI cable
- Recommended length: Less than 6 feet (1.8 m)
- The power supply provided with your Chromecast with Google TV (4K) or Chromecast Ultra
Note: HDCP 2.2 is copy protection technology that's required to stream 4K Ultra HD and 4K HDR content.
Troubleshoot
- Check your setup includes everything listed in "What you need."
- Some TVs require you to manually turn on HDR from within the TV settings menu. Check your manual for instructions.
- If possible, update your TV's firmware.
