To make sure you don’t miss a moment of casting your favorite content, we’ll notify you when a nearby Chromecast device is ready to be set up.

Requirements

  1. This functionality is only available on Android devices. It is not available on iOS devices.
  2. Your Android device must be running version 4.4 and above.
  3. This functionality is available on Chromecast, Chromecast Ultra, and Chromecast Audio devices. It is not available on Chromecast (1st gen) devices.

Use Nearby to find Chromecast devices

To get started using Nearby to find Chromecast devices,

  1. Turn on Bluetooth and Location Services on your Android device. These are required in order for your Android device to discover nearby Chromecast devices.
  2. Power on your Chromecast device.
  3. If there is a nearby Chromecast device that hasn’t been set up, you’ll see a Chromecast Setup notification pop up on your Android device. Tap Notification Options.
  4. If you’d like to continue receiving notifications for nearby devices, tap I’M IN. If you don’t want to receive notifications, tap NO THANKS.
  5. To begin setting up your Chromecast device, tap Set up Chromecast device.
    1. Note: If you already have the Google Home app downloaded on your Android device, the Google Home app will open. In the top right corner of the app Home screen, tap Devices and then scroll to find the device card for the device you want to set up and then tap SET UP to begin the setup process.

    2. If you don’t already have the Google Home app downloaded on your Android device, the Play Store app will open and you can download the Google Home app.
