Chromecast Audio compatible speakers and cables

Chromecast Audio works with speakers and speaker systems that have a power amplifier and compatible input. It can connect to a 3.5 mm stereo input, an RCA input, or an optical input.

To connect your Chromecast Audio to a 3.5 mm stereo input, use the 3.5 mm stereo cable that came in the box. To connect it to an RCA input or optical input, you'll need to purchase the appropriate cable separately.

Compatible speakers

You can connect your Chromecast Audio directly to an active speaker, which has an integrated power amplifier.

Common active speakers:

  • Bluetooth speakers
  • Soundbars
  • Docking speakers
  • Portable speakers
  • Desktop computer speakers
  • Studio monitors

To use a speaker without an integrated amplifier, connect an external amplifier between your Chromecast and the speaker.

Note: You can use a stereo receiver or AV receiver as an external amplifier.
