If you can't find your Chromecast in the Google Home app as needing to be set up, try these steps.
Initial checklist
First, make sure that:
- You're using the most recent version of the Google Home app.
- The Chromecast device is powered on.
- The Chromecast device is plugged into a wall outlet.
- You are in the same room as the Chromecast device.
- The LED light on the side of the Chromecast device is blinking white.
- If you're using an iOS device, turn on Bluetooth.
General troubleshooting
If you've checked off all the steps above and you still can't find your Chromecast device, try one of the steps below and then look for your device. If you still can't find it, move to the next step.
Step 1. Reboot Chromecast
- Disconnect the power cable from Chromecast.
- Reconnect power cable back into Chromecast.
Step 2. Force close and relaunch the Google Home app
Step 3. Try to manually connect to the Chromecast SSID from your phone or tablet’s Wi-Fi settings
- Go to the Wi-Fi settings on your mobile device.
- Open the list of available Wi-Fi networks and look for an available network with the name “ChromecastXXXX" (where XXXX is a random number).
- Note: If you previously set up your device and haven't factory reset it since it got kicked off of the network, look for the name of the Chromecast device that you assigned to it in the list of available networks on your mobile device.
- If you can successfully connect to the Chromecast SSID in your Wi-Fi settings, open the Google Home app and try to set up the device.
Advanced Troubleshooting
If you're still unable to find your Chromecast device in the Google Home app as needing to be set up, try the following:
- Try to use another supported mobile device to set up the Chromecast device.
- Move the Chromecast device to a different location (Example: room). This will rule out any interference in the area which can cause the SSID to not broadcast properly.
- On your mobile device or tablet, turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. Reopen the Google Home app and try to set it up again.
