Use Assistant on the Chromecast and Google TV Streamer Voice Remote

You can use voice commands with your Chromecast or Google TV Streamer Voice Remote to find and play entertainment on your linked TV, get information, control smart devices linked in the Google Home app, and more.

Talk to Google with your Chromecast or Google TV Remote

Note: When you use the Voice Remote, you don't need to say "Hey Google" before you talk to Google Assistant.

  1. On the remote, press and hold the Google Assistant button Assistant to open the microphone.
  2. Ask a question or say a command.

Allow Google Assistant to search your apps

You can use voice commands to search your apps.

  1. At the top right of your TV, go to All settings .
  2. Select Privacy and then Google Assistant and then Searchable apps.
  3. Select the apps you want to search with your voice.

Note: If a voice command isn’t working when you search with Google Assistant, use the keyboard instead.

Turn on Voice Match

Voice Match provides a proactive experience that’s tailored to each user. When Google Assistant recognizes your voice, it can proactively show your personalized content.

You can include your Voice Remote when you turn on Voice Match for your home. To turn on Voice Match for just your Chromecast or Google TV Remote, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap Home and then Settings and then Google Assistant and then Voice Match and then Other devices.
  3. Tap your home and then the box next to your streaming device's name and then follow the in-app steps.

Turn on personal results

If you turn on personal results, Google Assistant can respond to your personal questions and commands. For example, it can show you your Google Photos or calendar appointments.

Note: You need to turn on Voice Match for personal results to work.

  1. At the top right of your TV, select your profile and then Settings .
  2. Select Accounts & Sign In and then your account and then Google Assistant Assistant.
  3. Select Personal results and then enter your Google pin.
    • If you haven’t created a pin, you’ll be asked to enter your account password and create a pin.

Play a TV show or movie

Here are some voice commands you can use to watch TV:

Play TV series, TV show, or movie

Note: For TV series, each session usually starts where the previous session ended. For The CW, each session starts from the latest aired episode.

Requesting specific episodes or seasons of a TV series is not currently supported.

Pause, resume or stop

Note: These voice commands are only available on some apps.

If you've turned on personal results, you can also ask Google Assistant for personalized help:

  • What's on my agenda today?
  • Show me my photos from Hawaii.
  • How's traffic to work?

Smart device control with Google Assistant

Google Assistant can control any smart devices that are linked in the same home as your Chromecast or Google TV Streamer in the Google Home app.
