Here are some things you might experience if your Chromecast and Google TV Streamer (4K) has a weak connection to either Wi-Fi or Bluetooth:
- The light on your Google streaming device is blinking.
- Your streaming device isn't discoverable in the Google Home app .
- The Google Home app says that your streaming device is offline.
- The TV says that your streaming device is offline.
To improve your streaming device connection and performance, try these steps:
Make sure that your mobile device and Google streaming device are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Check your streaming device’s Wi-Fi network.
- Google TV Streamer: At the top right of your Google TV screen, click All settings Network and Internet.
- Chromecast with Google TV (HD) or Chromecast with Google TV (4K): At the top right of your TV screen, select your account icon All settings Network and Internet.
- Other Chromecast: On your mobile device, open the Home app touch and hold your Chromecast’s tile Settings Device information Wi-Fi.
- You can usually check the Wi-Fi network of your mobile device in its Settings app.
- If your router supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, make sure that your streaming device is on the 5 GHz network.
- Update your router's firmware, if needed. Sometimes routers have bugs, and there are firmware fixes to address them. Make sure that your router is running the most up-to-date software.
- Restart your streaming device. Unplug the power cable wait three seconds plug the power cable back in.
- Restart your modem or router. Check the manufacturer for instructions.
- To help prevent Wi-Fi or Bluetooth interference, move your streaming device further away from your TV. Also, don't let it touch other devices, wires or cables.
- Use an Ethernet adaptor to connect your streaming device to your router. This will give you a direct, hardwire connection to the Internet and alleviate your home Wi-Fi network.
- Note: Chromecast and Chromecast with Google TV both support Ethernet, but don't have an Ethernet port. Use the Ethernet adaptor, sold separately.
- Check that your wireless network can support the number of devices connected to it.
- To improve wireless coverage, use a mesh network like Google Nest Wifi.
- Move your router to within 20 feet of your streaming device.
- Factory reset your streaming device.
