Hello, I'm trying to install 3rd party extension using developer mode (unpack extension option). The .crx file is grayed out so it can't be imported. I also tried .zip extract to import .json file which was also grayed out. Then I seen this article dated 1 year ago: "Google blocks Chrome extension installations from third-party sites to combat abuse" Is there no longer a way to install them now? (the one on the webstore is not working correctly)

It looks like you will have to actually publish the extension to the Web Store.

You never did tell us which extension was causing problems.

There is more than one actually. I have to search again, but I recall seeing an option for a developer to upload extensions to the webstore without them being viewable by the public unless they have the url link. Is this still an option? Unless others are willing to contribute to the developer costs to fix extensions not working properly, they should remain private links.

There are ways to publish and limit access to only specific people.

Karrie Simmons,

If you see "Chromebook" on your Android phone, it is simply to indicate that you are able to connect your phone to a Chromebook, not that your phone is already connected to one. Yes, the wording is quite confusing, and we have already escalated the issue. You should not be concerned about it. You have not been hacked.
