My Chromebook has recently been using a lot of processing power and causing the fans to turn on full blast because the task labeled "Service: com.android.vending:download_service" is using over 95% cpu. This doesn't seem like normal activity, and I'm wondering if I can do anything besides force ending the process anytime it pops up? I closed it an hour or two ago and it's already back. I have android apps enabled, but haven't had any issues in the past month that I've had the computer.

I'm using the acer Chromebook 714 intel version fully updated, 8gb ram. Here's some other information in case you need it:

Google Chrome:  85.0.4183.108 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Revision: 17237e54ba47717220bb2f00df1c6329e892f6cf-refs/branch-heads/4183@{#1792}
Platform: 13310.76.0 (Official Build) stable-channel namiFirmware
Version: Google_Nami.10775.108.31
ARC: 6819528
JavaScript: V8 8.5.210.20
Flash: 3:2.0.0.433 /opt/google/chrome/pepper/libpepflashplayer.so
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; CrOS x86_64 13310.76.0)
                      AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko)
                      Chrome/85.0.4183.108 Safari/537.36

Let me know if you need any more information!

I'm having this service eating power in Android too, going nuts for 3 to 4 hours a day and have no idea what is it for.

Same for me. It started approximately a week ago. This "service" made other program to close down.
When I left the Chromebook for a while and came back, the screen was black. I assumed that it went in sleep mode, which is normal, but it would't wake up. It was dead. Tried to power up, did't work. Stonedead.
I had to reset the Chromebook (Acer Chromebook 714).

I found out that latest Google Play Store is the culprit here, version 21.9.47. Uninstalled the update, disabled background WiFi and data to prevent it from self update and everything is back to normal.
