PDFs downloading as 0 bytes 1 Recommended Answer 14 Replies 7 Upvotes

Whenever I download a PDF from any website and try to save it in Google Drive (in the files app), it appears as "0 bytes" and there is an error when I try to open it. This isn't happening with any other file types except PDFs. It also happens when I try to convert a Google Doc to a PDF.

It isn't an issue with storage space as I have around 7gb of Drive storage left and 16.2gb of offline files storage.

I've tried restarting it, doing a hardware reset and I've powerwashed it 3 times and it still hasn't fixed the problem.

I have a Lenovo N23 Yoga Chromebook and I'm on the stable channel.

Ah yes, that seems to be a good workaround, thank you.

Is this problem known to just affect PDFs or is it for other file types too? And do you have any idea when it will be fixed?

Thanks

It impacts all file types. It should be fixed in the current version of Chrome OS 81.0.4044.10

The issue was that there was a disconnect of some kind between Files and Drive.

I have been having this same issue but I've only had it on my Lenovo Chromebook - not my Samsung.  A powerwash does work for me but it is driving we nuts having to do it every few days.  So glad to hear this is going to be resolved.  I was ready to quit this device and I just bought it a month ago!

If you want help with this issue, you MUST provide the details! Just posting a "me too" complaint is quite unhelpful.

Provide ALL of these details:
  1. The complete brand name and model of your Chromebook (read the label on the back if you don't know!)
  2. The complete ChromeOS version (saying "latest" is no help)
  3. Describe what you are doing when you try to save the PDF - are you creating a Doc, using a website, using Microsoft Word, or what? The details really matter.
  4. Where are you trying to save the PDF? Local storage, Drive, or where?
  5. Are you using a managed account or Chromebook?
  6. Any other details that you think are involved.
