Hi,

When I click on things like Files or Settings the window first comes up blank. If I maximize it, the text is blurred and I'm unable to click on anything. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone have any advice. Thanks so much for any help. I was going to attach a screenshot, but even here that box comes up blank.

I've tried updating and restarting a few times. I've also uninstalled all apps I don't need.

Do you have the Android Facebook Messenger app installed?
 
Did you change anything in settings > device > display?
 
Did you enable a settings > advanced > Accessibility setting?
 
Did you change the font size in chrome://settings/appearance by clicking on the 3 dot menu > settings > appearance?

Hi, thanks so much for your reply!

I do have FB messenger from the Play store installed. I have not changed any settings, accessibility settings, or font sizes.

The Android FB Messenger app is causing the problem. You need to uninstall it. It is a known issue that either Facebook or the Chrome OS team needs to fix.

I have the same issue but don’t have messager installed what should I do?

HI All - I have experienced the same blurred screen issue. Also I have windows opening completley blank (web pages, files, print window).
I have removed the messenger facebook app.
Any other thoughts.......?

It's almost certainly an extension, even if not FB messenger.
Disable them all, then only re-enable those you really need, one by one.

I'm also Having the same issue's. I find clicking settings in chrome makes the window work again. I also have FB messanger installed (uninstlling it now). Thanks for the advice.

Update.
I have removed facebook messenger and disabled all extetions. 
My chromebook is running perfectly again. Even seems faster all round. Even with playstore apps.

When we say disable extensions, are we referring to Chrome extensions?

Yes - do a Chrome browser reset
 
Log back in to your profile and then . . .
 
Go to Chrome Settings . . . Advanced . . . (or you can enter chrome://settings/reset into the omnibox as a direct way of getting there.) scroll down and and click on Restore settings to their original defaults. and click the blue Reset settings button.
 
Then Restart your Chromebook.
 
Test to see if everything is functioning properly and the problem has disappeared.
 
You will then need to review your extensions as they will all be disabled. Look at them carefully and enable only what you really need. Take this as an opportunity to delete the ones you installed and never use. They just take up memory and hurt performance. Watch for the problem returning after you enable each one individually.

The exact same thing is happening to me, but i do not have messenger installed. Does this have anything to do with google play?

I'm having this problem and have realized that my Chromebook is now being treated as an Android phone. This is terrible because I am trying to back up all my files, but Backup is running, except it is not putting anything into my Drive. Moreover, the SanDisk Dual USB Drive 3.0 I bought to use for local backup cannot be accessed because I cannot get the screen to respond in Settings or Files. If I were to shut down this computer, the new update for Chrome would run, resetting my device and deleting all files. I've put Chrome into Developer mode, but I cannot seem to get the actual device into it. Any ideas? This is the only way to unpack the SanDisk file to start the local back up. -_-
