Hi, I just got my chromebook, Lenovo C-340-11. After turning on it worked great and wifi connection caused no problems. However after updating to Chrome OS 80 wifi basically stopped working. It can't connect to home wifi network, displays "out of range" message. It connects to android phone hot-spot but speed connection is terrible. From what I see many users of this device are reporting exactly the same problem. Is there a way to fix it? Can this device be downgraded to chromeos 79?

Try this --
  1. Turn off your Chromebook (don't just close the lid - do a complete power off)
  2. Turn off your WiFi router by unplugging the power cord.
  3. Wait 10 seconds or so.
  4. Plug in the power to the router and watch the blinking lights until it boots up completely.
  5. Turn on your Chromebook and wait for it to connect to the WiFi. The WiFi connection icon will stop pulsing.
  6. Sign in to your profile.
Did that fix it?

Hi, thanx for the reply. Of course I tried this as a first possible solution, but it didn't work. I also tried changing wi-fi channels in my router and  powerwashing the chromebook (many times). But that didn't help either. As I said, the wifi worked OK before the system update. It's not only the matter of my home wifi router, because when connecting to android phone hot-spot the connection speed is still very bad. There's apparently some issue with Chrome OS 80. Check this thread on reddit or this thread on lenovo forums. Many people report the very same issue.

People have been reporting WiFi problems for many years. They are rarely actually caused by a ChromeOS update.

Shut down and reboot. Use Guest mode instead of signing in to your profile.

Did that make any difference?

Try the WiFi at some other location - does that make a difference?

As I wrote earlier, I tried all typical solutions for connectivity problems, and rebooting the device is surely one of them. And yes - the device has problems with connecting to any wifi source, I tried with a few ones, which are available in my location. Other devices work fine, which is apperent, since I'm able to post this message, using my home wifi network.  And since there were no problems with the chromebook until OS update, and after the update wifi basically stopped working, it's hard not to suspect some relevance here. Also I'm referring not to any wifi problems with any chromebook that people have been reproting over the years, but to problems with this specific chromebook model and this specific update of chrome OS, reported during the last 48 hours, so I think it's pretty reasonable to assume this might be an OS issue.

Thanks a lot. From what I read in the conversation below this bug report, there's a possibility to downgrade chrome OS to 79. Can you tell me how to do it? Cause that would allow me to have my device usable (athough with no possibility to turn it off) until the next update.

You can try to do a Recovery. That might put you back at version 79.

I was finally able, to roll back to the 79 version of OS and of course wifi is now working just fine. The problem is I can't turn the device off, since it will automatically update to the 80 version. I really do hope this issue is gonna be fixed, cause the chromebook itself and the OS are great and work flowlessly apart from this bug.

No I will NOT turn off the router.   There is nothing wrong with any my other devices connecting, it is only the chormebook so its device issue clearly.  Im writing this reply now with the wifi no problem at all.   Wtf is wrong with Google updates?  this is the umpteenth time its happened.
