how do i save my downloaded files directly to my local USB drive?

My friend has a chromebook where he can choose the default drive storage to a local USB drive.  However my chromebook only allows me to save to the cloud drive.
Also, my friend can choose how long the screen will stay on before it goes out, but I don't seem to have that option in my display settings.  My screen goes off too fast, what can I do?

Hey JJ,

If you have external media that you typically leave plugged into your Chromebook you can use it for your downloaded files. Make sure it's plugged in then navigate to chrome://settings/ and scroll down to 'Advanced', click on it, then scroll down to 'Downloads'. There you'll see the Location section and a 'Change' button on the right. Click 'Change' and the Files app window will open and you'll be able to select your local USB drive as your downloads location. Please keep in mind that you'll have to keep the external media plugged in for this to work.

Concerning the Display timeout, there currently is no setting to adjust that, unfortunately.
You can have the display turn off when it goes to sleep, to enable that navigate to chrome://os-settings/power and set 'When idle' to 'Turn off display' from the drop-down menu.
Note: you can put the device in sleep mode at any time by pressing the key-combo Shift + Launcher + L

 Hope this helps, ~DennyL
