"Setting enforced by admin" on personal, powerwashed Chromebook
1
Good day,

After setting up my Chromebook from a powerwash, I noticed that the "Android Device" underneath the "Connected Devices" section of settings was permanently set to the off position, and the reason given was that an "administrator" has enforced the option.

This is strange, considering that before the powerwash, I was allowed to change this setting with no restriction. What's also weird is how this is a personal Chromebook device that has been connected to no administrations during its entire lifespan. I have attached an image below.

I feel I should also mention that the reason I powerwashed this Chromebook was because of a red-texted warning that showed up on the login screen, stating something along the lines of untrusted apps not from the play store being installed on the device, which I don't remember doing.

Is there any solution to this problem?
If it helps, I'm using a Samsung Chromebook Plus (kevin), with ChromeOS version 79.0.3945.86, 32-bit. I have also installed the TPM firmware update long ago, although developer mode is now disabled. OS verification is on, and the write-protect screw on the motherboard is present.

Thanks,
Edin O.

Are you using a gmail.com email address, or one from a school or company or private domain?

I'm using an address from a private domain, specifically teknik.io.

There you go. You will have to work with that domain admin to fix the problem.

I sent him an email, and until I get a response, I will keep this thread open for updates.

I have gotten a response, and they elaborate that Teknik mail is just an email address and "nothing more". "We don’t hook into any 3rd party services, or do any sort of management of other accounts you have used your Teknik email for."
Is there some other reason that could be behind this, then?

Please file a feedback report about this. Include a link to this thread in your comments. I am not sure this is working as intended or a bug.

Hi Edin,

Could you do me a favor and go to chrome://policy in your browser and take a screenshot of that page for me while signed into that account?

Thanks!

Can you switch to  gmail.com account and see if that allows the feature to work?

Will,
Here's a photo of the entire policies page.

Jim,
A GMail account doesn't seem to be affected, judging from another user's settings page that's also on this Chromebook. I will also make sure to file a bug.

Hi Edin,

Is that screenshot from the Gmail account or the Teknik account?

This is a screenshot of the Teknik account. The GMail account's policy page looks exactly the same.

Do you see the "managed device icon"?

We have escalated your issue, as it is quite puzzling. We are trying to eliminate any known indicators of a managed environment before escalating further.

Here's a photo of the notification center. The managed device icon doesn't show up.

I've also reported the bug directly from ChromeOS' interface (alt+shift+i), and submitted it, but I don't remember being given a bug number. I tried checking the public issue tracker, but I didn't see my issue there.

You filed a feedback report. That is different from starting an actual bug report.

Powerwashed Pixelbook and then noticed after that had the admin icon on the connected devices, powerwashed again and it's still there. Kind of frustrating that it was fine before and now this is showing up.
