Why is my Chromebook unusable when charging? 0 Recommended Answers 41 Replies 39 Upvotes

I hope someone can help. I have two ASUS C223 Chromebooks. Both are unusable when they are connected to the USB C charger due to incredible lag, which even affects movements of the mouse pointer. This means I can only charge them when they are sleeping / not in use.

When not connected to the mains charger, the Chromebooks are perfectly usable. However, within five minutes of connecting to the charger the lag starts to creep in and the devices quickly become unusable.

Removing the charger and waiting a few minutes (as I have just done) is the only way to fix the issue. Restarting only clears the issue for a few minutes if the charger is still connected on restart.

I have Googled the issue and seen a couple of other people with similar problems on other devices, however, I couldn't find any suggested fixes. I'd be really grateful for any thoughts or advice!

Perform a hardware reset.

Hi, I've tried this on both Chromebooks but the problem remains.

Chris,

I don't believe we've seen this issue yet so I can't really offer much help, sorry.

I think the best way to get it resolved is to report the issue using the key-combo alt+shift+i
When reporting make sure you check the box for: 'Send system and app information and metrics' so they get all the logs and task info. This way the devs can take a look at it and hopefully find the cause and remedy.

 Hope this helps, ~DennyL

This is certainly an odd one!

Try plugging in your charger at some other location - you may have some electrical noise in your current house wiring or outlet. That could be caused by a faulty power strip, fluorescent light fixtures, or whatever.

Take a trip to a coffee shop or a friend's house, plug in there, and see what happens.

thanks, but unfortunately it happens no matter where the charger is used: home / work / hotel.

You should contact ASUS for warranty support. It is probably a hardware defect in your device.

I also have an asus C223N and mine does exactly the same thing. Its totally unusable when charging but great when not. I've reported the issue as stated above. At the minute I'm just having to selectively charge it when I know I'm not using it.

Same issue here using Asus C223NA chromebook. Looks to be an issue affecting all these models. I suggest you contact ASUS for repair/replacement.
