Screen stays on as GUEST - but - shuts off moments after login w/ my regular google account PlzHelp! 0 Recommended Answers 32 Replies 510 Upvotes

It asked what "channel" I'm on - I chose "stable" but didn't know what the options meant.  Exactly as I described above - when I login as myself, three seconds later the screen goes off and won't come back on unless I hold power button for 10 seconds, then push it again to restart the machine - I see the chrome screen then it asks me to login - I do so - and then three seconds after seeing my desktop it all goes away.  I've done this at least six times.  BUT, if I connect as GUEST - the screen stays on.  Problem - I don't have access to any of my files.  Any suggestions?  Thank you.

Welcome to the Chromebook Help Community!

Have you changed anything on the chrome://flags/ page (you type this address into the browser)? (If you did, use the "Reset all to default" button on that page and restart.)

Are you in Developer mode? (Are you, or have you, changed into Developer Mode, or have you experimented with Linux? If so explain in detail.)

What's your Chrome OS Version? (Type chrome://version in your browser window's address bar. Copy and paste the first five lines in the results, they start with Google Chrome, Revision, Platform, Firmware Version, and ARC, if present - you can do this in guest mode).

Greetings Camdyn and thank you, 

I have not been to chrome   flags  that I am aware of.  Should I try the Reset even if I do not believe I have been there?

I have not experimented with Linux and am not in Developer mode that I am aware of - I do not know how one may switch between Developer and any other modes there may be.  Is there a way for me to check?

I am copying in the information from chrome   version  below.  Thank you.  - Ron

I tried copying the information in below but it says "failed to post. content violates community policy."

Thanks for posting that information.
 
We are trying to figure out what is going on. It is happening to multiple users. We are trying to collect diagnostic data at this point.
 
Since you are able to switch between Guest and your profile, I would appreciate if you would run this test.
 
Log back in to your profile.
After it crashes to the black screen, please try this:
 
1. Press these 3 keys together: 
alt + volume up + x
Press that key combination 3 times within a 10 second period.
Wait about 5 seconds.
If the system reboots, file feedback report. Use alt+shift+i for the feedback report and include this link to your thread:
 
If not, go to step 2:

2. Press the alt + volume up + r key combo once. If the system reboots, file the feedback report, as explained above.

If not, go to the step 3:

3. Press the power + refresh key combo once. The system should reboot here. File feedback report.
 
Come back here and let us know what happened.

Step 1 did not work.

Step 2 DID reboot the chromebook.

I did use alt+shift+i to report back.

Is there anything else for me to do this evening after work?  Thank you.

Also - after it rebooted, did it stay running, or did it black screen again?

I believe it stayed on after reboot but was a blank screen - i had to walk away, it was late, we had a severe wind storm and the power flickered a couple times.
