Where has the "Bento Bar" chrome flag gone?

"Bento Bar" is a chrome flag/experiment that aims to make desk switching simple, easy, and productive. Now, I know the Bento Bar has been under development for a while now and I'm unsure if the flag/experiment has perished, or if the feature is being put into the dev channel. The reason why I wonder if it is being added to the dev channel is because the flags/experiments sometimes disappear for some users while the feature is being added as a default feature of Chrome OS, whether it stays and reaches stable or not.

flags are used to test new features that aren't incorporated into the standard browser and can be removed at any time without notice or cause. If the flags were popular, the functionality might be incorporated into a future release of Chrome. If it was unpopular, it might disappear without a trace.

Note that the page you found is for Chromium OS, not Chrome OS, and what happens in Chromium OS doesn't necessarily flow over to Chrome OS at the same release, if at all.

Chromium OS is the open source version of the OS. Google picks up Chromium OS releases on occasion, modifies them, and puts them into the Canary channel. From there, they may be further modified and eventually move to the developer channel. As a elease's code is further refined and QAed, it will move into the beta channel, and then, when all known significant bugs have been fixed, it will be moved into the stable channel, from whence it's gradually rolled out to the Chromebook user base over a period of weeks.

Once the initial transfer from Chromium OS to Chrome OS is performed, no one outside of Google has access to or knowledge of the release.

Having said all that, the page comes as close as you'll find to getting you the answer you want; just don't be surprised when it's sometimes not accurate for Chrome OS.

Nevermind. The Bento Bar flag came back with the dev channel update last week.

Hello Joe Ellet. I understand what you mean, but I was positive that there was a way to know when the flags expire. Thankfully, I did a google search to check if my thoughts were correct, and I was indeed correct in my assumption. The website that I found is this: https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src/+/master/chrome/browser/flag-metadata.json

Additionally, I found the Bento Bar flag by scrolling through the list of experiments.

Kind regards,
Logan Terrell

Hello Joe Ellet. Thank you very much for clearing that up. Additionally, I would like to apologize for being snarky (at least I think I was).

Kind regards,
Logan Terrell
