printer issues
0
I've purchased two printers and cannot seem to get either one to work with my dad's Chromebook which is brand new and made by Lenova. The main issue is the printers do not show up in the settings. I had the printer to the same network as the chrome book  but it never shows up in the settings. One was an Epson and the other one was an HP Envy. I do understand what is so difficult. When added to the network the printer should be recognized and appear in the settings! Any suggestions? Perhaps a certain model printer?

As nobody else has responded so far, I have set out my thoughts on your problem in this hyperlinked Google Doc.

I think I ought to emphasise the revised second page of the Google Doc mentioned in my previous post:

The bottom line is that if you state the models of your Epson and HP Envy printers, everyone will be better able to diagnose your problems. It should also make it possible to determine the appropriate individual solution for each printer and describe each one in far simpler terms (e.g. a simple set of instructions) with less theoretical content. However, it may also be necessary to ask you to supply additional information.

Hey John!

If I make the assumption that you are trying to print over the network, make sure that the printer is advertising itself on the network, using another device that has printed successfully. Most modern printers will allow the user to print the active network configuration, which will give the printer's name, etc.

If not, you will need to configure the printer to make it advertise.

I have not needed to install software to make my devices do standard print jobs (which is all I want). In my experience, the vendor software is available to enable folks to access the advanced features of the printer (like duplex printing).

Network printing used to require a lot more magic and incantations about twenty years ago. My guess is that something simple is awry, and stepping through the setup steps will fix it.

Good Luck!
