Restore sessions and manage suggestions on your Chromebook

You can continue where you left off when you restart your Chromebook. You can also find your preferred suggestions on your desktop or overview section.

Manage your startup settings

  1. On your Chromebook, at the bottom right, select the time.
  2. Select Settings .
  3. On the left, select System preferences.
  4. Under 'Startup', select from the following:
    • Ask every time: After you turn on or restart and sign in to your Chromebook, a notification asks for permission to restore your previous sessions.
    • Always restore: After you turn on or restart and sign in to your Chromebook, your previous session gets restored automatically.
    • Off: After you turn on and sign in to your Chromebook, your Chromebook won't restore your previous sessions.

Resume your last opened apps and tabs

When you restart your Chromebook, to continue where you left off, you can find a message together with the last opened apps and tabs.

  • To restore sessions, select Open.
  • To continue to the desktop, select No, thanks.
If your startup settings are set to 'Ask every time'

When you restart your Chromebook, to continue where you left off, you can find a message together with the last opened apps and tabs.

  • To start a page personalised for you, select Open.
If your startup settings are set to 'Off'

When you restart your Chromebook, to try a personalised new start page, you can find a message.

  • To start a page personalised for you, select Turn on restore.
  • To keep the restore setting off and continue to the desktop, select Keep restore off.

Manage suggestions on your Chromebook

  1. On your Chromebook, go to the overview section.
    • To open the 'overview' section:
      • Touchpad: Swipe up with three fingers.
      • Keyboard: Press Overview .
      • Accessibility settings: Press F5 + Tab or Arrow.
      • Saved desk button: Press Search + Shift + F10.
      • Snap a window by dragging the window title bar:
        1. Select and hold the title bar of the window that you want to snap.
        2. Drag the window to one side of the screen until the side of your screen highlights.
        3. Release the window to 'snap' it into place. The window will fill half your screen.
      • Tablet gestures: At the bottom, swipe up and hold.
  2. At the bottom, right-click any suggestions.
  3. Select Customise suggestions.
  4. Select the suggestions that you'd like to find and remove.

If suggestions are turned off, you can turn them on at any time in the 'Overview' section.

  1. Right-click anywhere in the 'Overview' section.
  2. Turn on Show suggestions.
