Set up your scanner

You can scan from your Chromebook with most printers and scanners that connect to Wi-Fi or a wired network. Chromebooks don't support Bluetooth scanning at present. Check if your printer works with your Chromebook.

Connect to the Internet

Important: Make sure that your Chromebook and scanner are connected to the same network.

  1. Turn on your scanner.
  2. Connect your scanner to the network.
    • To find out how to connect your scanner to a network, read the manufacturer instructions for your scanner.
  3. If you haven't yet, turn on your Chromebook.
  4. Sign in on your Chromebook.
  5. Connect your Chromebook to the same network as your scanner.

Scan a document

Important: Make sure that your printer can scan.

  1. At the bottom right, select the time.
  2. Select Settings .
  3. At the bottom left, select Advanced.
  4. To open the Scan app, under 'Printers and scanners', select Scan.
    • Optional: To find the Scan app, open Launcher  and at the top, in the search bar, enter Scan. 
  5. To find your scanner, under 'Scan', on the right, select the down arrow menu.
    • Under 'More settings', you can change:
      • Your colour mode
      • Page size
      • Resolution
      • Scan options 
  6. To start your scan, select Scan.

Fix scanner setup problems

Your scanner won't connect to Wi-Fi

  1. Turn your scanner or printer off.
  2. Turn your scanner or printer on.
  3. Try to connect to Wi-Fi again.

Tip: If your scanner still won't connect to Wi-Fi, contact your scanner manufacturer.

You've set up your scanner, but it won't scan

  1. At the bottom right, select the time.
  2. Select Settings .
  3. At the bottom, select Advanced.
  4. Under 'Printing', select Printers.
  5. Next to the name of your printer, select More  and then Edit.
  6. Make sure that all your printer information is correct.

If all your printer info is correct, try to remove and add your printer again:

  1. Next to the name of your printer, select More  and then Remove.
  2. Set up your printer again.

Tip: If you still can't print, you may need to update your printer's firmware. Visit your printer manufacturer's website for more information.
