You can use privacy controls to manage access to your camera and microphone.
To provide access, you must give permissions to apps, web pages, and the Chromebook itself.
Important: If your Chromebook has a physical camera and/or microphone switch at the top or side of the device, make sure it’s in the “on” position.
Step 1.a: Select your apps (including Android and web apps)
- On your Chromebook, at the bottom right, select the time

- On the left, select Apps
Manage your apps.
- Select an app that you want to give camera or microphone permissions to.
- Turn on or turn off the app’s permission to use the camera or microphone.
Step 1.b: Choose your website permissions in Chrome
- On your Chromebook, open Chrome.
- Go to chrome://settings/privacy.
- Select Site settings.
- Under “Permissions,” select Camera or Microphone.
- Select an option:
- Sites can ask to use your microphone
- Don't allow sites to use your microphone
Tip: When a web page or app you’re visiting requires it, Chrome may ask you to grant permission to access the camera or microphone.
Step 2: Turn on or off Chromebook access to mic & camera
- On your Chromebook, at the bottom right, select the time

.
- On the left, select Security and Privacy
Privacy controls.
- Turn on or off Camera access or Microphone access.
- To turn on or off microphone system access from your keyboard, you can press the Microphone key, if present

Tip: If the camera is unresponsive, you may need to turn it off and on again. You may also need to restart or refresh the app after turning it back on.
