You can take a screenshot or record a video of your Chromebook's screen. After you capture your screen, you can review, edit, delete, and share the image or video.
Tip: Screenshots and recordings are automatically copied to your clipboard.
Take a screenshot
- If your Chromebook has it, press the Screenshot key .
- If your Chromebook has no Screenshot key:
- At the bottom right of your screen, select Settings Screen Capture .
- Press Shift + Ctrl + Show windows .
- If your external keyboard doesn't have a Show windows key , press Ctrl + Shift + F5.
- If your Chromebook has no Screenshot key:
- In the menu at the bottom, select Screenshot .
- Select an option:
- Take a full screen screenshot .
- Take a partial screenshot .
- Take a window screenshot .
Tips:
- On your keyboard, to change the section that you want to screenshot, you can also press the space bar.
- You can also change the size of your screenshot. On your keyboard, press the Tab key until one of the circle corners of the section is highlighted.
- On your keyboard, to change the height of your screenshot, press the Up arrow or Down arrow keys.
- On your keyboard, to change the width of your screenshot, press the Left arrow or Right arrow keys.
- To take a screenshot, you can also use the menu on your screen. At the bottom, select the time Screen capture.
Record your screen
- Press Shift + Ctrl + Show windows .
- In the menu at the bottom, select Screen record .
- Select an option:
- Record the full screen .
- Record a partial screen .
- Record a window .
- At the bottom, select Settings .
- To record a video with your camera on, turn on Front Camera.
- To record a video with audio, you can select:
- Device audio
- Microphone
- Device audio and microphone
- To show key combos, mouse clicks, and touch gestures when you record, turn on Show keys and clicks.
- To start recording:
- To record full screen: Click anywhere on your screen.
- To record partial screen: Select a part of the screen to be recorded. From the drop down, you can select:
- Record video: File format is .webm.
- Record GIF: File format is .gif.
- To record window: Select a window to record.
- To stop recording, at the bottom right, select Stop recording .
- To stop recording, you can also use the keyboard shortcut Search + Shift + X.
Tips:
- GIFs don’t capture audio or video input.
- To protect your privacy, only key combos with modifier keys will show for show keys and clicks.
Find recordings & screenshots
Recordings and screenshots get saved to your “Downloads” folder. You can change where your recordings or screenshots are saved:
- Press Shift + Ctrl + Show windows .
- At the bottom, select Settings Select folder.
- Recordings or screenshots you take are added to the folder you select.
