Add and open Chrome apps

You can add and open apps from the Chrome Web Store.

Add an app

Add an app from the Chrome Web Store
  1. Open the  Chrome Web Store.
  2. Search or browse for the app you want. 
  3. Click Add to Chrome.
Add a website as an app
For Windows, Linux, and Chromebook users, you can add a website on the internet as an app in Chrome.
  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Navigate to the website you want to add as an app.
  3. At the top right, click More More.
  4. Click More Tools.
  5. Add the app:
    • Windows users: Click Add to taskbar.
    • Linux users: Click Add to desktop
    • Chromebook users: Click Add to shelf.

Open an app from your bookmarks bar

To use the Apps shortcut, you must be using the bookmarks bar.

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Make sure you have the bookmarks bar turned on.
  3. In the bookmarks bar, click Apps . If the Apps shortcut isn’t visible, right click on the bookmarks bar and click Show Apps Shortcut.
  4. Click the app you want to open.
Open an app in a new tab
  1. Open Chrome.
  2. In the address bar at the top, type chrome://apps.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Click the app you want to open.

Right-click an app to open it in a regular or pinned tab, full screen, or new window.

Open apps in other browsers

An app can be opened in another browser if the URL starts with http://. To open the app, follow these steps:

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Open the app and confirm the URL
  3. Copy and paste it into the address bar of another browser to open.
Use the Chrome App Launcher on Chromebooks

The Chrome App Launcher is a window where you can access all of your Chrome apps right from your desktop on Chromebooks. You can click on the launcher icon to view it Launcher.
