Install and manage apps

You can install apps from the Chrome Web Store. Once you've installed them, you can keep track of what you've installed and remove an app if you want to.

Note: Some apps in the Chrome Web Store are only supported on Chromebooks, and won't work on Windows, Mac or Linux.

Install and uninstall apps

Install an app
  1. Go to the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Find and select the app that you want.
  3. Click Add to Chrome, or if it's a paid app, click Buy.

Note: If you're installing an app at work or school, some apps might be blocked. Find out about using a managed device.

Install an app using your phone

You can use your phone to install free apps:

  1. If you haven’t yet, sign in to Chrome on your phone.
  2. In a Chrome window, browse the web and find the app that you want.
  3. Tap Add to Desktop.
  4. In the window that appears, tap Add to Desktop.

The next time you open Chrome on your computer, you’ll see an alert that an app was installed remotely. In some cases, you’ll also see the permissions that the app needs. To grant permissions and use the app, click Enable app.

Install an app from a developer’s website
  1. On the developer's website, click Add to Chrome to install the app.
  2. Review and accept permissions.
  3. Open a new tab to complete installation.
Uninstall an app

To remove an app from Chrome:

  1. In a new tab, open chrome://apps.
  2. Right click the app and select Remove from Chrome.
  3. A message will appear asking if you want to remove the app. Click Remove.

Create shortcuts for apps

If you're on Windows, Mac or Linux, you can create shortcuts to open apps faster. You can put these shortcuts on your desktop or menus.

  1. In a new tab, open chrome://apps.
  2. Right click the app for which you want to create a shortcut.
  3. Select Create shortcut.
  4. Choose where you want to see shortcuts on your computer.
  5. Click Create.

Keep track of your apps

To see a list of all the apps that you've installed:

  1. Go to the Chrome Web Store.
  2. In the upper-right corner, click Settings Settings.
  3. Click Your Apps.

Note: To access your apps no matter what computer you're using, sync your apps to your Google account.
