Chrome auto-filling field incorrectly 0 Recommended Answers 4 Replies 64 Upvotes

I have a business web application that includes an "order quick search" input field in my header bar.  Chrome (for the last couple months) is inappropriately filling this in with the saved username from the login screen on page load.  There is nothing about the field including labeling that would indicate it being a username field (pasted below).  This is an SPA with cookies, and depending whether or not the user has previously authenticated, the login screen may or may not even get loaded to the DOM.  I'm guessing Chrome is just trying to be smart here and autofilling because it's in the header bar or the first input in the DOM?  This issue does not happen in any other browsers.  The actual login field has a different ID.

<input class="form-control" type="text" placeholder="Order Quick Search" autocomplete="off" id="orderQuickSearch" onChange="orderQuickSearch();"/>

I have the same problem; that is why I asked my clients to switched over to FireFox

This is a BIG security risk, and has been causing so much problems

I demanded my clients to use FF until further notice

Was able to fix this issue by changing the ID's of the input boxes, adding the property autocomplete="UserName" and autocomplete="password".  Autocomplete worked after this.

Hope this can help until Google fixes it.

<input type="text" readonly onfocus="this.removeAttribute('readonly');"/>
