Chrome - Eye Strain Probably Caused by Dithering 0 Recommended Answers 5 Replies 2 Upvotes

I installed Chrome in order to play on Stadia, however, Chrome is giving me eye strain and headaches, not just when playing on Stadia, but overall, as a browser (both on Windows and Linux) - on the same PC, same OS, staring at the same page in Firefox is OK while looking at the same web page via Chrome is causing eye strain. I believe it is caused by some form of temporal dithering to improve image quality in Chrome. Is there a way to turn this feature off? If not, I believe it should be added as it may be causing issues to many people who just have no idea what the source of their issue is and believe it is a general monitor eye strain. I've seen a lot of people on the Internet complaining the Chrome white to be too bright and I believe it's the same issue. I challenge Google to pay attention to this as their browser is widely used (I personally prefer Firefox) and they may be causing health issues to a lot of people without them realizing it. As I am very sensitive to any picture instability I offer to test and verify any fixes Google can make to their browser to rectify the issue. To make it clear: I am not saying dithering is to be removed as it may serve a good purpose for majority of people, but for those that are sensitive there should be a way to turn it off.

I was actually advised by Stadia support to post the issue here. I understand now this is a user to user forum and I've submitted this as an issue report to the Chrome team via the Chrome browser. Still, if anyone on the forum knows how any form of dithering can be turned off (via flags or anything else) any reply will be greatly appreciated.

Did as you had suggested. For anyone interested in devs' replies, the bug report is here:

I would welcome any further posts here from anyone having the same issue - Chrome causing eye strain or painful, burning eyes while other browsers (especially firefox) don't exhibit the same behavior on the same system.

Thank you.

Unfortunately there's no progress, in my very humble opinion it should be treated with higher priority as it may impact a lot of people that are not aware of this issue. If there is anyone on this forum who could raise awareness and help draw Chromium developers' attention to this, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.
