chrome not recognizing my most visited sites

So, as the title says, Chrome doesn't recognize the most visited sites i go onto anymore in the URL bar when i type them. Before i cleared my history (not sure if included cookies/cache) this month everything was as it should be. If i typed "s", for example, soundcloud.com would show up and i could just press enter. Now if i for example search "Soup" once, that is all that is going to show up if i type "s" in the url bar.

Things i have tried:

-manually removing "soup" from my history and then trying again
-resetting my chrome settings to the defaults
-reinstalling chrome

None of these seemed to make a difference.

I've come here to ask the same thing. They probably changed the priority of suggestions (i.e. recently searched results come before most visited sites) and I really want to revert this as well since it's really obnoxious. Doing this on google search is obviously fine, but NOT in the browser search bar.

Just started noticing this too. Must be a recent change.
Something I searched for once a week ago now appears before my most frequent website in the address bar's suggestions.

I did find a fix, don't remember where, but what I did was go to chrome://flags, search "omnibox", look for "Omnibox Google Drive Document suggestions" and disable that. That seemed to fix it for me.

Thanks OP, that fixed for me as well!

okay, for me it was two different settings in the flags

the first one is the one already mentioned, the google drive document suggestions

the other one was "Omnibox tab switch suggestions", although this one was only problematic if you still had whatever you searched open in another tab

why are these settings enabled by default?

Honestly, I just changed my search bar to "bing" instead of "google" and now I no longer get my one-time searches.

It's a stupid thing to have to do, but it's a lot easier to not have to deal with "goose", "goose attack", & "goose canada" when I'm just trying to get gmail.

"I did find a fix, don't remember where, but what I did was go to chrome://flags, search "omnibox", look for "Omnibox Google Drive Document suggestions" and disable that. That seemed to fix it for me."

That worked for me. Thank you so much!

I used those two Omnibox solutions yesterday and they worked - thanks so much!! But this afternoon, it's happened again and when I checked, the flags were still disabled, so now I don't know how to fix it. Anyone else have any ideas?

This ability to instant search as well as going straight to what I use regularly has always been why I preferred Chrome, and now that big selling point isn't working.

For me this was caused by a setting managed by the network admin in our workplace, under Settings > Search Engine > Advanced:
"Preload pages for faster browsing and searching" was turned off.
