How to edit the Dictionary after adding the wrong word - using MacOS Mojave
0
I've looked at a couple answers about how to edit the Dictionary from 2016. Things have evidently changed.

I added a misspelled word to my dictionary. I want to delete it, remove it, or undo the change to the dictionary.

Had to figure it out for myself after I found your question. For future questioners: As of May 2019, the best route is:
  • click the hamburger menu (three dots in the upper right)
  • pick settings
  • scroll to the bottom and click advanced
  • scroll to the language section
  • pick spell check, it should drop down more options
  • pick custom spelling, your list of oops words should be here.
  • click the x on the right of any word you want removed
Hope that helps!

My browser isn't showing spellcheck, and it doesn't show up when I search settings. Could this be related to the fact my company manages my browser here?

Keith,
Thank you for lead on how to deal with this issue on the Mac system!

Unfortunately I'm not finding the Custom Dictionary.txt file - if anyone has further ideas where it could be stored on 10.11.16 that would be much appreciated!

I was also not able to find that folder but this set of instructions worked for me. I am on Mojave 10.14.6 https://www.catch22marketing.com/how-to-remove-words-from-chrome-dictionary/

There seems to be no way to access the dictionary via the browser. I spent about an hour attempting to find a solution to this and I seem to have finally successfully removed the word I added to my dictionary. I removed it from the dictionary local to my mac with ease but it was not removed from Chrome in the process. Here is the pathway I eventually found to remove it from Chrome, one that none of the online posts and forums have in their listings. Under /Library⁩/⁨Application Support⁩/⁨Google⁩/Chrome⁩/Default/ and then there is a file in that folder called Custom Dictionary. Terminal would not let me access the folder, rather I opened the user library using terminal and then proceeded to manually click through each folder where I eventually stumbled upon the dictionary which I was able to edit and the problem was solved as soon as I reset Chrome the next time. Good luck to others searching for this issue.
