Use Chrome Browser with Roaming User Profiles - Passwords have stopped syncing

Using Chrome in a VDI environment, we've been syncing Chrome profiles for some time to users roaming profiles. This still works...except passwords have stopped working.

Now behaviour is : Chrome still offers to save passwords and they appear (during the user's session) under Settings/Passwords and autofill as expected. If the user logs out and back in (usually at the end of the day) then while their history / bookmarks from the previous session are still present, passwords will not be.

Under chrome://sync-internals The passwords type is greyed out with the state of "Not Running" and a message of "Datatype preconditions not met." (screenshot attached)

I've tried deleting the profile file and resyncing but I get the same result.

(If it isn't obvious, we're not using Google accounts)

Has the behaviour changed in Chrome to disable this functionality?

Can confirm this (with same version of Chrome). No password syncing within our Windows RDP environment any more.

I have this same issue on a remote desktop server cluster. Can someone from google fix this bug or at least acknowledge it, please. This is getting ridiculous

I seem to still have this issue. I ended up doing a workaround for now. What I essentially do is at user logon inside %localappdata% I have a script create a symbolic link for a folder called "Google" which is pointed to their roaming profile folder. So when they launch chrome it creates its files in there and essentially their chrome profile runs from there.

The actual problem from what I can tell, even if you have chrome set to for roaming mode, it creates a folder in %appdata%, but that file only keeps bookmarks. The rest of chrome gets setup at %localappdata% So when the user logs off that data never is put into %appdata%

I'm having this problem with my users as well. I was a few Chrome builds behind, then I updated to current last week and bam... password issue as described above by other users.

Please fix this bug.

Same issue here. All users in my RDS deployment are now experiencing this issue.

chrome://sync-internals confirms that Model Type Passwords is "Not Running" because "Datatype preconditions not met."
