Is there any tool that can scan Chrome for malware, and/or reset/change BAD settings?
1
Greetings ladies and Gentlemen!

Except the Chrome built in button to "check for malware", is there any tool or function that can scan Chrome for bad code and scan for wrong settings or files/directories that should get removed?

I have used Chrome for years, and I sync ONLY passwords, bookmarks, adresses and paying methods.
I ONLY use Chrome on one PC. Mine. I do not want to share anything or have my passwords on any other device.

I had to stop syncing all, because Bitdefender identified malware when I reinstalled Chrome and started Sync. The "settings" sync tab had synced harmful code to my google account.

I also have problems with Chrome directory. It saves alot of temp files, and it took a USB Linux loader tool to remove Chrome files under "Program files/Google/"

Its tons of folders there. That Bitdefender cant delete and I THINK thats where some bad code is hiding.
I've reinstalled Google million times now. Reinstalled Windows.
When I download Chrome on a fresh Win 10 installation, the Google/Chrome dir is normal.
But as soon as I sync back my passwords, bookmarks etc, the Google folder fills with tons of junk.
Extensions that doesnt even show up on google. Stuff like that.

Is there any TOOL or feature that scans Google Chrome browser and ALL its files, on my PC (Win 10), and remove the stuff that shouldnt be there? Or change settings if some of them are "wrong"?

I have tried resetting Chrome = Did nothing
I have tried pressing the button in Settings "scan for bad code" = Finds nothing
I have tried to manually delete Google/Chrome/Temp, etc. No go.

A tool to scan and check Browsers. YOURS, not how browsers work on X websites.
Im greatful for any tip!

Oh, New Edge (Chromium) does not have these problems Google Chrome has?

Hi Krystallen,

In addition to Vivek's great response, here are some steps we usually recommend:
  1. (Windows only) Run the Chrome Cleanup Tool (Tell me how).
  2. Scan your computer for the unwanted software using recommended removal software:
  3. Uninstall unfamiliar or suspicious extensions (Tell me how).
  4. Uninstall suspicious programs from your computer:
  5. Reset your browser settings.
Hope this helps -- keep us posted!

"I have tried resetting Chrome = Did nothing

End Quote.

Thank you for your answers, but you did not answer my question? Eh?

Im asking for a Browser tool, "Except the Chrome built in one". <-------
Because that tool is useless.
The new check that Chromium released does not check Chromes data, files and settings.

Neither Malwarebytes, the malware cleaner and hitman scans Browsers.

Anti viruses is for the system. Not the browser application.
Like Browser Watchdog
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/browser-watchdog-for-chro/jjnfhbcilcppomkcmkbbmcadoihkkgah?utm_source=chrome-ntp-icon

But a tool that scans settings and Chrome folder files as well.
Anyone found a good browser checker tool?

Please?

All of those programs scan for "potentially unwanted programs" (PUPs), which often make undesired changes to your browser settings. If you really desire, you can set many popular antivirus/antimalware software to scan a specific folder, so you can get them to scan just the Chrome folders if you so wish.

Vivek M Tripathi post poped up as the answer. He did not answer my question.
Please remove "the answer" from him.

I've found a few tools on Comodo Dragon forums and Cerf.net. Open source scanners but they check Chromium, Safari, Edge and Samsung browsers. They highlight bad settings and suggests what directories in Programfiles/Google/Chrome/ Temp - User - Etc, too delete.

ESET offline USB rescue environment had one too, but thats alot of manual work. IT detects injected pics, fejk chrome database tmp files and cleans extensions.

If anyone knows any other tool that scans browsers and finds problems/Malware/bad settings, please reply.
But please read my question before someone else answers with a copy/paste from FAQ

The Chrome "Find malware" is a joke. If you sandbox it, it only scans your chrome user folder and check the checksum on chrome.exe.

Viruskillers looks for bad code. And they cant look in a browsers database, the extensions or if you simply have really bad settings, like accepting sites to send commands to your browser via html.
