In the search results of Google, when I click on something it will load the page with a part of it highlighted, and in the URL bar there is #:~:text=...
and I was wondering whether you could switch this off?Community content may not be verified or up-to-date. Learn more.

Dear google, I would like my user experience back please. I don't need YOU to tell me how to navigate someone else's webpage.

I am still not able to disable this feature. "enable-text-fragment-anchor" flag isn't available anymore and I still have not been able to resolve this issue.

I'm having the same issue. I do not want this annoying and stupid highlighting blazing yellow color into my eye, I want to read the search result myself. I need to be able to disable this awful highlighting or I will be forced to switch to another browser. I am not able to disable it through flags, although I previously was able to.

Fix doesn't work anymore. Does anyone have any more ideas or is it finally time to drop google as my search engine altogether?

Same issue here (Chrome 84 on Linux). There is no "enable-text-fragment-anchor". This behavior is very annoying. The yellow color is a pain in my eyes.

Agreed. This is extremely annoying! I fixed the "text fragment anchor" and now it is gone and doesn't work any more. Please stop this, Chrome.

I too would like this "improvement" reverted. Loading pages that have highlighted text is unnecessarily slow. If am I looking for information, I want to read the context, not get brainwashed with whatever Google thinks is most important.

I want to disable it too. It is annoying and uncalled for. I am about to switch to any other browser for how annoying this is.

Three steps to get rid of this feature:
1. Uninstall Chrome
2. Install Firefox
3. Enjoy!

Yeah this is pretty ridiculous. You need to at a minimum make a general setting for it. It should be an opt-in "feature" (if you want to call it that), not a forced behavior.
Not everyone wants everything "instant and copy-pasteable", some of us still want to know why, not just what. I'd hope that the Google Devs would appreciate this, but then remembered Google's roots.

Unfortunately, there is no such flag in Manjaro's official build of Google Chrome 84.0.4147.105 (64-Bit)
This flag is available in Chromium only, not in Chrome. At least on Linux. This is very annoying. It's a very encroaching behaviour.

Bump. I used to be able to disable this "feature," but now the Enable Text Fragment Anchor flag is missing. Any new way to get rid of it? When I click a link from a Google search, I want to read the article from the beginning!

As others have noted, the
enable-text-fragment
flag has been removed in the latest versions of Chrome. I was able to fix this issue in version 84 with an enterprise policy, ScrollToTextFragmentEnabled
