Clear Browsing Data Mechanism Keeps Getting Stuck, Freezes, Won't Cancel. Any solution, please? 0 Recommended Answers 112 Replies 237 Upvotes

My Chrome Clear Browsing Data mechanism keeps getting stuck, but I can't cancel it while it's running, and have to close its window to escape it.  When I reopen the Clear Data dialog box
(ctrl h, etc.), the cache + cookies, which are what I'm usually trying to delete, seem to be cleared, but not always.  Sometimes, if I completely close Chrome (all windows, that is) then reactivate it from my desktop, the Clear Browsing Data mechanism will run smoothly for its customary clearing session, from start to finish.

The problem began just a few days ago.

Thanks for whatever help, including advice, you can provide for me.

P.S. So far, my actual browsing history deletes per item or altogether without trouble. My only difficulty has occurred when trying to erase cache and cookies via Chrome's Clear Browsing Data tool.  Thanks.--j

Thanks to the tip to close chrome and restart. It finishes after that.

Hi, resting.  Thanks for your response, and I'm glad my observation helped you. So far, no one has offered a solution or workaround.  Perhaps the tech crew is busy (maybe even testing or trying to find -? this particular flaw).

Anyway, thanks again.  !

Hi.  Odd, but I tested my Clear Browsing Data tool yesterday night and just now (3:03 p.m. PT), by setting it to delete my cache and cookies, and it worked both times without a problem -- not even a delay.  Perhaps the engineers are slowly (and/or methodically) making the fix-it rounds, and will reach everyone soon.  I hope so.  Whatever.  Please keep us all updated, if you can. I'm guessing that the collective commentary may be at minimum a motivating factor (if not more) in whether the problem is addressed, and eventually solved.  Either way, thanks for responding (that's also helpful in itself, you know -- at least as a comforting starting point!).

Good luck to all.  Sorry to all.

The Chrome Clearing History browser function needs to be updated by the Chrome Team because it''s using HTML Imports which is deprecated.

You can see the actual message by opening Developer Tools and viewing Console.

[Deprecation] HTML Imports is deprecated and will be removed in M73, around March 2019. Please use ES modules instead. See https://www.chromestatus.com/features/5144752345317376 for more details.

This is an easy fix. Open chrome, click on the customize link on upper right, go to bottom of drop down menu and select help, about chrome os. That will allow you to complete the update and the problem is fixed.
