How to fix NET::ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID error on mac
0
I keep getting the NET::ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID error with certain websites. I have checked my date and time on my computer (mac) and they are correct. If I manually set the date on my computer back a few days, the websites work again, but once I change it back, the same problem happens again.

My husband can access these websites without issue using his mac on the same wifi network (our home network).

Other things I have tried without success:
- Scanned for malware--gave me the all clear
- Cleared history (including cached data and cookies)
- Restarted computer
- Using different wifi networks
- Clearing DNS cache on computer
- Deleting McAfee (read this was a fix for some people)

Any help is appreciated!

I am getting the same error message too for my work website/email. My date and time are fine. This started Saturday I believe for me.

This morning, I backed up my computer, cleared it to factory settings and restored it from the backup. It did nothing. Still having the same issues with the same websites.

I'm having the same issue with university websites .edu.

I've cleared my browsing and cache history, SSL, and even uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome... NOTHING.

Restarting the computer doesn't do anything either.

Google - please advise. I need access to these websites for educational purposes.

My issue started Saturday (the 30th) as well.

THANK YOU SO MUCH The Kendall Chronicles!!!! Worked like a charm!

To clarify for others in case they have this slight difference, as well--I followed the steps above from Kendall Chronicles with one difference. After I clicked on "login" I didn't see anything that said "category", so I just highlighted all of the certificates showing (clicking the first one, then "shift", then the last one). After this, I proceeded to click on "View" in the top menu bar and continued with the instructions they posted above. Worked perfectly!

There was a Root Certificate ( AddTrust External CA Root ) that expired on May 30, 2020:

MacOS users not on 10.12+ will not automatically get the proper certificate.

Fix for MacOS Users
If you are running a MacOS laptop before 10.11, you should update your laptop to at least 10.12.

Bryan Starr, thanks for the link. Unfortunately that "fix" doesn't work if you're on an older Mac. I'm using OSX 10.11.6 on a mid-2009 MacBook Pro (that runs perfectly) and I cannot update to 10.12 on my computer. I fixed this error by following the instructions by The Kendall Chronicles and just deleting EVERY certificate that was expired (you can sort by expiration date after showing the expired certificates). It worked like a charm and now everything I have to use SSO (Single Sign On) for works normally.

This seemed to be a valid answer for me (also had a certificate expire on may 30th) but I deleted all expired certificates, restarted, and still not working. Any ideas?

I had the May 30th expired certificates as well. After deleting all of the expired ones and restarting some websites work that did not before, but some still give me the error. I will keep monitoring this for another solution...

You have to update MacOS to fix the certificate that expired on May 30th. El Capitan and earlier do not gracefully switch to new root certs.
