Chrome keeps signing me out after updating to Windows update 2004

I have recently just updated to windows update 2004 and I keep having issues with google signing me out of every account on my browser including forcing me to sign in again for sync. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled chrome to try fixing this. It's been starting to get really annoying having to resign into my accounts every time I use my pc. Does anyone know any way to fix this?

OMG! I finally fixed this issue. After the Windows 2004 update, I was logged out of my email, and apps, so I had to sign back in with usernames and passwords every time, but I found the fix!
Go to start...then settings...then accounts...then sign-in options...then require sign is checked  NEVER...then at bottom of same page, restart app is ON...then both privacy questions are ON.
Bingo!! FINISHED!
Restart computer and your good to go..
Your welcome.

If you're only experiencing this after the 2004 update, then this is probably bug 1069383.

Here is a workaround if you don't want to wait for an official fix from Microsoft.
  1. Open a powershell console as Administrator.
  2. Type this: Get-ScheduledTask | foreach { If ($_.Principal.LogonType -eq 'S4U') { $_ } }
  3. If it lists any tasks, open Task Scheduler and disable them.
(If you cannot disable them, make them non-S4U, that's the checkbox that says "Do not store password")

I was able to resolve this on my wife's computer by:

  • Closing open chrome windows
  • Locking the machine (Windows Key + L)
  • Logging into Windows and opening Chrome.
  • Reboot for confirmation

I had a similar issue where Chrome would stop syncing and would prompt me to sign in again. I tried many of the tips here and other forums to no avail. Chrome stopped asking me to save my password as well and would not come up at all. To fix my issue I cleared everything (history, cookies, saved passwords, cache etc.) Chrome gives you some warnings about making it seem like it’s a bad thing but I allowed it anyway. I made sure to take note of some passwords I didn’t remember before clearing. I also exported my bookmarks so wouldn’t lose that either. After that, I turned off syncing and signed out. I uninstalled chrome and reinstalled from scratch, not saving any settings. Opened chrome, signed in and it finally asked me to save my chrome password. Turned on sync, imported my bookmarks, and resolved the issue. This was my last resort. I followed everything in all the forums I read but nothing worked until I did this. Hope this helps if nothing seems to work out.

for about 3-4 weeks now i am experimenting for solution of why Google destroyed it's own browser by not saving passwords. I have tried everything as developer. The "solutions" i found:
1. Use portable Chrome 32bit and build one by one the profiles you had by open from notepad the Login Data file of every profile. Possible to work 60% or use chromepass app and will serve you every details from your profiles, both waste of time if they haven't at least 90% of success.
2. Delete your Login Data file after you have saved their info... nope waste of time.
3. uninstall the current chrome re-install a version bellow 76 then blocked all the methods for auto update. Dahhh waste of time too...

I run a company and every employee has his profile... she/he has to dig in the Login Data file and elsewhere to recover their credentials eeeevery day.

We switched to Microsoft Edge start the transition to it, needs effort to immigrate but at least at the end we will have something working.

If google fix chrome... ehmm ehmm don't see it... let us know.

Same problem, and tried all three recommended solutions.  The first two accomplished nothing, but the third from Tavis Ormandy did the trick both for Chrome and for another application on my computer - Box Drive.  It's the most complicated of the three solutions but I wished I tried it first - the other two solutions were a waste of time.

Had this problem after Windows 10 update. Funny, it didn't affect Microsoft Edge ..hmm
Anyway all I did was go to Chrome download page and download/update Chrome to the latest version and it fixed the problem.

After all suggestions in this thread didn't help yet, I found a new approach here, and there is a corresponding thread in the Chromium Bug-Reports. I haven't tried it yet, but it sounds promising.

It seems to have something to do with a thing called "S4U tasks" on Windows 10.

Here's even more about it.

Microsoft also seems to recommend something similar.

Even more about it here.

Notably, there is one potential workaround that Google security researcher Tavis Ormandy figured out. He explains:
If you look in Event Viewer, under Windows Logs > Applications and Services > Microsoft > Windows > Crypto-DPAPI > Operational, do you see any errors? If the answer is yes, try this:
  1. Close all Chrome Windows
  2. Lock (Press Win+L) your Workstation
  3. Unlock, then start Chrome, does it work then?

This has worked for me for the past 3 months, it is a pain to have to remember to lock your computer after closing Chrome.

The other solution in this thread about disabling scheduled tasks did not work for me as no
S4U tasks appeared when I ran the command in a Windows Power Shell.

Sherry Smith's post helped me out - I had errors in the Crypto-DPAPI event log, and closing all Chrome windows/locking Windows/unlocking fixed the sync issue.  It does reoccur when I reboot, but it's a workaround nonetheless.

I just fixed mine! I have been having the same issues for the past week.

Follow these steps. I literally just did this just now.
1. Go in to Settings
2. Go to Privacy and Security
3. Go to Cookies and other site data
4. Clear cookies and site data when you quit Chrome should be off(grayed out).

Log back in to your main account you use and then close Chrome. Then reopen it and you will still be connected. Make sure you sign in to your other accounts if you have more than one. I have opened and closed 5+ times to be sure of this.

Good Luck all!!
