After the latest update the CPU and memory are going so high that I am unable to multi-task. Even a single empty tab is taking so much memory. Please fix this

Not sure, if it's the same case (since you dont give many details), but I seem to be having a similar problem with latest update to Chrome 83 on Ubuntu 16.04
Every 5-10 minutes for no discernible reason chrome uses all my CPU cores and freezes for about 2-7 seconds. This is mostly irrelevant to what I am doing, but I think it happens more often when click on a link or open a new tab. Anyone else having similar experience?

Yes.

Initial launch of chrome, CPU spikes causing the temp to rise. Then it randomly starts spiking for no apparent reason.

Close chrome, no spikes whatsoever.

Chromium bug I think

Freeing space on C: (> 2 GB) solved it for me and many others
Was able to reproduce it: if free disk space is less than 2 GB, then high CPU usage up to 100% ("Browser" entry in Chrome task manager). As soon as more free space is available (e.g. 2.1 GB free), then CPU goes down to 0 immediately.
This also explains why other "solutions" only sometimes/temporarily work (clear disk cache, reset to default, uninstall + reinstall).
Highly recommend to report this as a bug to Google, as Google is not reading forum posts! Therefore, use Chrome menu "Help / Report a problem ...", and enter something like:

Chrome Bug Report: High CPU usage in main Chrome process if low disk space
=============================================================
If free disk space on C: drive / home dir drops below 2 GB, the main Chrome process ("Browser") causes up to 100% CPU usage. Affected are at least Windows/Mac/Un*x versions. Freeing up space >2 GB immediately and reproducible stops the high CPU usage.

Mac 10.15.4, Chrome broken since update to 83. High CPU, very slow, even with just one window/tab open.  I have 187 GB free disk space. It's unusable. None of this worked: logout/login/clear site data & cache... everything/reboot.

The fix: quit chrome, use Firefox.

Since a recent update, possibly 1-2 weeks ago, each time I start Chrome, there's very high CPU usage and it hangs there for 30 seconds before loading properly. I'm using a top-spec desktop i7 with 32GB ram. No space issues with my SSD.

Same behaviour observed on my office computer as well.

Pretty sure the devs did something again. Sigh.

Thank you "Martin S. 1301", your suggestion works for me.

My chrome was pinning the CPU at 40% with just 4 tabs opened, sustained (not just during chrome startup,)

After freeing my drive from 900MB to 3G, the sustained CPU usage of Chrome drop instantly to 5% (without relaunch).

Thanks.

The same here on debian 10.4
Chromium 83 from security repo sucks completely.
High multi CPU, unresponsive. Not usable at all.
Returned to Chromium 80 which "solved" it for the moment.
