Developer Tools Console opens by itself randomly. How do I stop/disable this?

The Developer tools console started opening by itself randomly while I am browsing a few days ago. I don't know why this is happening. It seems to have started randomly. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Generaly, the DevTools window opens if the F12 button on keyboard was clicked.

Check if your F12 key it's somehow pressed.

Do you notice which tab of the developer tools is showing? If it's Elements, and there is a chance that you just copied something from the page, your Shift key may be sticking.

This just happened to me with no windows update and no buttons sticking. I seemed to have fixed the problem by opening task manager, click the arrow next to chrome browser, highlight devs tool and press end task. Hope this helps.
Update: this is only temporary. Every time I close and reopen chrome browser it comes back.

I solved the problem by creating DeveloperToolsAvailability in registry and configuring to value 2

DeveloperToolsAvailability
Control where Developer Tools can be used
Data type:Integer [Windows:REG_DWORD]
Windows registry location for Windows clients:Software\Policies\Google\Chrome\DeveloperToolsAvailability

  • 0 = Disallow usage of the Developer Tools on extensions installed by enterprise policy, allow usage of the Developer Tools in other contexts
  • 1 = Allow usage of the Developer Tools
  • 2 = Disallow usage of the Developer Tools

Example value:0x00000002

Go to chrome://serviceworker-internals/?devtools and uncheck the "Open DevTools window and pause JavaScript execution on Service Worker startup for debugging" check box.

I'm having the same problem and before you start marching out all the usual suggestions' it is not a case if accidentally hitting f12 - I have disabled the key and the last  suggestion, when I go to the page suggested the open DevTools etc selection is not checked

I would really like to get this fixed, I have Parkinson's and typing is already a challenge.  I don't need things like this happenoing.

It's due to our built-in laptop keyboard (keys got stuck). I just uninstalled/disabled it under Device manager (PS/2 keyboard).  It will install/activate itself though after clean boot but at least I can get rid of it at will.  I'm using an external (USB) keyboard.

It's due to our built-in laptop keyboard (keys got stuck). I just uninstalled/disabled it under Device manager (PS/2 keyboard) after I copy the device IDs.  In windows search or run window, type gpedit.msc (if it's not active, you may google how to show it).  While inside Local Group Policy Editor, under Computer Configuration/Administrative template/System/Device Installation/Device Installation Restrictions ..double click "Prevent installation of devices that match any of these device IDs" ; click "Show..." paste all the values copied from PS/2 Keyboard device ID.

The system will not install the faulty built-in keyboard even if you reboot.  You may want to revert it back later after you repair or replace the keyboard by going through the above settings.

I had this problem, and the main problem was that it was 2 keyboards pluged in, and when i unpluge one of them it solve the problem.
