To fix this issue I had to remove the User Profile From Chrome. To do this I:

1) Clicked Windows and R keys and pasted this in box: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data

2) Copied Default Folder to my desktop

3) Shut computer down and restarted

4) Then navigated to Chrome by typing "Chrome" in search bar bottom left. Right click on Chrome icon in top left and choose "Open file location"

5) This opened to the shortcut version of Chrome so I had to click in the navigation bar to bring me back to the Windows C: directory. From there I chose the folder Program Files x86 > Google > Chrome > Application >

6) In this folder was the real Google Chrome exe file. I right clicked on the Google program. Chose "Run as Administrator" and Google opened for me.

7) Delete Default Folder from Desktop.

8)  Save these instructions on your machine, because this will happen again.

I'm having the same issue and it won't open as administrator either. It opens then immediately closes within a second. I've reinstalled twice.

Found the issue. For me it was Cisco AMP that blocked Google for some reason. Had to whitlist it in the AMP dashboard.

The YouTube video was a great help. I found that the Chrome folder was not installed onto Program Files (x86) but was in the Program Files folder. So I copied the Chrome folder over to Program Files (x86) folder and Chrome now opens.

HUGE THANKS to "Bucket"... This video worked, but like "CSK8553" said, I found the "Chrome" icon in "Program Files/Google"/Chrome/Applications/Chrome" NOT, "Program Files (x86)... It's working perfectly now! :)

I am also having this issue.  Reinstalling has not solved the issue.
When I click the icon there's about a 40%-ish chance chrome will actually open.  I can forcefill the process using command prompt and get spammed with errors saying "There is no running instance of the task".

This is increasingly annoying because it somehow also affects clicking links in certain applications.  They will not open at all even though the "loading" icon is next to my cursor.

It turned out this problem was caused by my virus checker - WebRoot. This explains why renaming it works temporarily. I had to put a switch in the shortcut so I ran Chrome as - "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --process-per-site

This 'process per site' switch fixes it and I have no idea why. Also - what is very strange - with over 50 Windows 10 PCs that I manage this problem only occurs on 2 of them. Weird.

My "solution" has been to change the program's default properties (for all users) and have it run in compatibility mode for Windows 8. This is the ONLY way I have had it continue to work and NOT break having Chrome set as the default browser.

Sam Smith, my 10 PCs all have Webroot installed and the problem occurs only on 4. Could you tell me exactly how you found the problem & what it was. The 4 that have the problem are number 3-6 in my naming scheme and I wonder if there was some changes to Webroot's configuration files after I created 1 & 2 then again from 5-10.

After trying several things I ended up changing the Public shortcut's compatibility properties to set "Disable fullscreen optimizations" and "Register this program for restart"

Very simple solution: Uninstall Chrome and install Firefox. Otherwise, when you see a 45 step procedure to get a browser working, you're basically stuck with new profile or reinstall Windows 10. In the IT world, we have limited time to spend on 8 or 10 different things to fix; we usually just hand the user a new PC.

So I watched a bunch of videos and read a few blogs but none of it solved the issue. In my case, the Chrome folder was in the "Programs Files" and not the "Programs Files (x86)" I ended up just copying to the x86 folder and it worked fine.

Worth trying uninstalling ("remove", not simply disable) extensions you are not using. In my case this worked effectively, Chrome now opens successfully with the first attempt 90% of the times. I wish I could uninstall more extensions however, they're needed.

Mine is still not working.. I'm on the new Microsoft Surface Laptop 4.. After imaging with our company image, Chrome will not start up, and only on these laptops. I'm not sure if it's an update that was done or what, but I've done every fix that I've found online and nothing is working.
