Google Chrome Crashpad\settings.dat file causing long load times when first launching Chrome 0 Recommended Answers 0 Replies 35 Upvotes
We've had many users complain about Chrome taking anywhere between 1 and 5 minutes to launch when they first log into their computer. After reading through some posts regarding this issue, I found that deleting the users Google User Data folder located in the C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\ directory, it would resolve the issue. I wanted to dig deeper though and see if I could determine exactly which file was the culprit. Troubleshooting led me to the settings.dat file located in the Crashpad directory. If I delete that single file from the user's system and have them reboot, Chrome only takes 5 - 7 seconds to open compared to serveral minutes. My question is, what exactly does that settings.dat file do and what could be some possible root causes that would lead to these users needing that file deleted so that Chrome could create a new one?
