Add to home screen option doesn't work. 0 Recommended Answers 127 Replies 738 Upvotes

I like to add shortcuts to my home screen for specific websites that I visit frequently but the option no longer works. If I am on the website that I want to save and go to the options and go to add to home screen, nothing happens when you press it and the shortcut does not get added. Is there any way to fix this? I have made sure that everything is up to date and I have uninstalled and reinstalled to see if that would help but nothing has worked.

Same here, there seem to be a huge communication issue between the google devs and web developers.

I am having the same issue. Saturday July 27,2019 i sued Chrome all day and used the shortcuts I have then I shut my laptop down for the night and Sunday July28,2019 None of them worked. I have no reason why. I have uninstalled chrome and reinstalled then put back the  shortcuts. They didnt work again. On Tuesday I uninstalled again , reinstalled and put them back and they worked. Then shutdown for the night today July30,2019 doesnt work again. What is the issue why cant we get an answer or talk to a service rep. This is crazy no one can get any help.   I would also get a message when I clicked on the shortcut that said something like it couldnt find the short.     It is a GOOGLE CHROME ISSUE.

With some sites, Chrome will install as an actual app.  So you might want to look in your app list and not on the homescreen.  In these cases, Chrome should ALSO add the shortcut to the homescreen, but doesn't.  If it does add it as an app, the next time you go to the same site, "Add to Homescreen" will probably change to "Open <AppName here>".  Maybe this what some are seeing, maybe not.

On iOS, Apple in their infinite wisdom does not allow any third party apps to use "Add to Homescreen" -- only Safari can do that.  So Chrome and other browsers will not show the Add to Homescreen option.

Note: i am not affiliated with Google.  I do some development of PWAs and the above is my experience of this ever changing area.

I'm having this issue on a Pixel 2XL with Android 10 and the latest version of Chrome. It allows me to edit the name of the shortcut, but then when it should offer the icon as a widget to be drafted to the home screen, or select the add automatically option, nothing happens. If I swipe up front he bottom (using new gesture navigation) I see it very briefly but it disappears. It's as if it's hidden behind chrome or something. But any navigation that might reveal it, dismisses it.

Please fix this Google!

When the big Add To Home screen comes up, press and hold the icon in the middle, and it will behave just like a wigit. You keep your finger on it, and move it to where you want it.
