Chrome starts automatically when I turn on the computer, without being launched
When I turn on my laptop (Dell Inspirion 5559 running Windows 10, 64-bit), it automatically starts Chrome, usually at a blank page, not my selected home page, without being launched from the task bar. I haven't put Chrome into the Start menu, but it does seem to automatically start up about a dozen Chrome-related tasks and extensions. Is there any way to turn this off?
This is what CCleaner finds: "HKCU:Run 0EF39F5CD2F93E2D49A90D9D56ACFA1B90BF26B7._service_run Google LLC "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --type=service /prefetch:8", which means Chrome is running in the background at startup, despite my having told Chrome to stop running in the background when I close it.
If I close Google Chrome via Task Manager, it goes away completely and subsequent opening and closing of the app behaves as I want it to. So I've disabled it from the startup entries and that is how I think it should be. I don't need it to be there as a background task as soon as I've logged onto my PC and believe it shouldn't be on as a startup item by default.
There may be a flag within Chrome to stop this from happening but a bit more transparency from Google re this setting/behaviour would be beneficial. Google, please read this and act!
If you right-click on the Windows Start button on the taskbar, click Task Manager and click the app you don't want to appear on start-up and click Disable button.
If you don't see the Startup tab, click More details and click the app then follow the steps.
no this does not work. I checked startup and chrome is not listed in startup in both settings-> start up and when I do ctrl alt delete , task manager, startup. it is not listed so I can't take something off that is not listed
